A contemporary dual unit residence located in Islamabad, situated on a 60 x 90 plot, conceived as a balanced response to both family living and urban pragmatism. Designed by ORAD, the project negotiates between permanence and adaptability, housing a primary family unit alongside a secondary rental unit, without compromising the architectural integrity of either.
The architecture is anchored in the raw expression of exposed brick, allowing material honesty to define the visual language of the house. Rather than relying on applied ornamentation, the design draws its character from proportion, texture, and the interplay of light and shadow across carefully articulated surfaces.
At a planning level, the house is organized to ensure clarity between the two units, maintaining privacy, independence, and functional efficiency. The primary residence is tailored for a family, with spaces that flow intuitively around daily routines, while the secondary unit is designed as a self sufficient rental, integrated yet distinct. This duality allows the building to respond to evolving economic and social needs, reflecting contemporary living patterns in Islamabad.
Natural light, cross ventilation, and a restrained palette of materials shape the internal experience. Openings are positioned with intent, framing views while maintaining a sense of enclosure and comfort. Circulation is deliberate, minimizing dead spaces and emphasizing usability over excess, an approach aligned with ORAD’s philosophy of designing for real life rather than idealized imagery.
The result is a grounded architectural statement, quiet yet assertive, where simplicity becomes a tool for longevity, and the house evolves as both a home and an asset over time.
